The Colles fracture is defined as a distal radius fracture with dorsal comminution, dorsal angulation, dorsal displacement, radial shortening, and an associated fracture of the ulnar styloid. [1] The term Colles fracture is often used eponymously for distal fractures with dorsal angulation. [2] filexlib. AO principles of fracture management. T. Rüedi, W. Murphy. Published 2000. Medicine. Smith fractures, also known as Goyrand fractures in the French literature 3, are fractures of the distal radius with associated volar angulation of the distal fracture fragment (s). Classically, these fractures are extra-articular transverse fractures and can be thought of as a reverse Colles fracture.
The Smith's fracture is an injury to the forearm bone (the radius) with or without involvement of the ulna. A Smith fracture is relatively uncommon compared with the Colles fracture. A Smith fracture is also at times referred to as a reverse colles fracture. Anatomy

Smith Fracture [1] is also termed as Reverse Colles Fracture. This is caused when there is rupture in the end of radial bone located near wrist. This type of fracture typically occurs after falling down on an outstretched arm and landing on the back side of wrist and hand, which results in breaking of radius bone at its end and pushing it towards the front side of outer wrist.
Distal radius fractures are commonly caused by a fall on an outstretched hand, most commonly in those with osteoporosis. The three most common eponymous distal radius fracture types are the Colles' fracture, the Smith's fracture, and the Barton's fracture. Ensure to assess neurovascular compromise in the initial assessment.
Smith's fractures are less common than Colles' fractures. The distal fracture fragment is displaced volarly ( ventrally ), as opposed to a Colles' fracture which the fragment is displaced dorsally. Depending on the severity of the impact, there may be one or many fragments and it may or may not involve the articular surface of the wrist joint .
The repair of bone fractures is a postnatal regenerative process that recapitulates many of the ontological events of embryonic skeletal development. Although fracture repair usually restores
A Colles Fracture is a complete fracture of the radius bone of the forearm close to the wrist resulting in an upward (posterior) displacement of the radius and obvious deformity. It is commonly called a "broken wrist" in spite of the fact that the distal radius is the location of the fracture, not the carpal bones of the wrist.
